Girl, Wash Your Face - A Review

Ok guys, it is time - my first official book review! From the time I learned how to read, I have absolutely LOVED it. Even as a little girl, I rarely went anywhere (even a 30 minute trip to the store) without a stack of books to keep my occupied. Now, in my adult life, this passion has continued and I want to share it with all of you.

I read at least one book a month, and I like to switch between lifestyle, business and entrepreneurial type books and a novel (typically mystery or a love story) each month. My first book of 2019 seemed like the perfect way to not only start off the year, but to start this virtual bookclub I am so excited about. It is an honest and raw narrative about the life of a successful business woman and how she navigated through trials and tribulations, preaching of the lies she once thought were true, in order to get the life she has today.

It probably comes as no surprise to many of you that my first book recommendation of 2019 is none other than Girl, Wash Your Face, by Rachel Hollis. This book has been on my list since it was first published and once the holidays slowed down, I finally had a chance to read it and I was so excited. So excited, in fact, that I finished the book in two days.

Rachel Hollis has an incredible talent of drawing her readers in and making you feel like you're sitting on the sofa with her, drinking a glass of wine and chatting like old pals, all the while she is teaching you priceless life lessons. From her career struggles, to her excruciatingly relatable romantic plights, Hollis really hit home for me page after page.

When it comes to love, perhaps one of the greatest quote I have ever read said simply:

"Sometimes choosing to walk away,

even it means breaking your own heart,

can be the greatest act of

self-love you have access to."

I truly wish I could go back in time and read this book in my earlier twenties. I can't help but think I might have done some things a little bit differently. But I suppose it's the toughest times in our lives that teach us the greatest lessons, right?

And when it comes to life, career and chasing your dreams, nothing hits more to home than reading the words:

" You'd better find the will to keep going,

because if you don't, I

promise you someone else will.

If that happens, girl, you will watch someone else

achieve your dreams and enjoy the

spoils of their hard-fought battle.

And if that happens, you will understand

one of the greatest lessons in this life:

the only thing worse than giving up

is wishing that you hadn't."

Damn. If that doesn't just light a fire right under your tush....

I don't want to spoil the book for you, so I'm going to leave it at that. Do yourself a favor, and get your hands on a copy of Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. You can order a copy from Amazon Prime and have it in your hot little hands in two days by clicking the link below.
